NORTHLAND YOUTH THEATRE
NORTHLAND YOUTH THEATRE
CREATING DRAMA & BUILDING LEADERS IN NORTHLAND SINCE 1984We empower rangatahi across Te Tai Tokerau through accessible, inclusive performing arts education.
We deliver year-round classes, workshops, productions, and community events that nurture creativity and leadership, build self-confidence, and create meaningful opportunities for young people to connect, belong, and thrive. We provide a space for young people to grow as artists, collaborators, and future leaders.
NYT students range between 6-24 and work with a range of professional practitioners from Northland and beyond throughout the year.
“NYT is so much more than a weekly class, it's friendship, leadership, opportunity, networking, teamwork and collaboration. It's stepping outside the comfort zone with unwavering support from the tutors.”

What’s on
Join us for a sparkling night of bubbles, delicious food, live music, singing, a silent auction featuring some exciting items, and plenty of quiz fun — all hosted by and in support of NYT's talented young people.
Bid, Sip, Sing is a fundraising evening of elegance, entertainment, and community while helping ensure Northland Youth Theatre can continue delivering high-quality programmes, creative opportunities, and leadership pathways for young people across Te Tai Tokerau, now and into the future.
Held Together is a curated collection of scenes drawn from published plays, each selected for and staged by emerging performing arts leaders and guided by experienced industry mentors. What emerges is a compelling mosaic of human connection, disruption, and discovery.
This vibrant showcase is the culmination of creative exploration by over 20 rangatahi taking part in NYT’s 2026 Emerging Directors Programme, delivered in partnership with ONEONESIX.
Held Together is not just a show, it’s a snapshot of growth, courage, and collective creativity in motion.

Our programmes grow the next wave of theatre-makers and leaders.
From directing and writing to performance and leadership, we back young creatives to collaborate, step up, and make powerful work.
Our outreach programme brings accessible, high-quality theatre workshops directly to schools and communities across Te Tai Tokerau.
Led by experienced artists, it empowers rangatahi to build confidence, creativity, and connection through hands-on creative exploration.
