A Midsummer Night's Dream - January 2020

Picture

Northland Youth Theatre Presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream A Quality Shakespeare performance “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players” (from As You Like It, William Shakespeare) A Shakespearean quote, taken literally by a group of young people, who performed A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Quality Street on February 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th as Free Street Theatre.

Each year Northland Youth Theatre invites 3 young emerging directors to share the responsibility of directing their peers over the summer school holidays in an intense 3 week rehearsal period and perform in Quality street.

This year Jasmin Fisher-Johnson, Shayla Thomas and Danielle Ngakuru-Smith took on the challenge of directing, with guidance from dramaturg Jan Fisher and a cast of 15 young people aged 15–18 years.

Between 200-250 people attended each performance, standing in the streets and booking tables for dinner and to watch the show unfold.
